Whilst men were away from home with the Freedom fighters in the forests, their women were exposed to the attentions of the 'loyal' stay-at-homes, the police, and the soldiers. Villages were burnt, atrocities resulted in useless cripples, and personal loyalties were stretched to breaking point.
