In the painful years ofthe Emergency in Kenya many people suffered personal tragedies. Whilst men were away from home with the Freedom fighters in the forests, their women were exposed to the attentions of the 'loyal' stay-at-homes, the police, and the soldiers. Villages were burnt, atrocities resulted in useless cripples, and personal loyalties were stretched to breaking point.
