ALICE'S
ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND
¦¦ by Lewis Carroll If ¦
Illustrated by Gwynedd M. Hudson
This is one of the finest editions ever published of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland—itself one of the greatest of children's stories. Absurd, comical and timeless, it is a book that has become a perennial favourite for generations of children and adults.
The original book was first published in 1865, and had an unfortunate beginning when the printing was rejected by the illustrator, Tenniel. (The printer lost the grand sum of L20.00 as a result). But reprints followed in quick succession, and the story rapidly established itself as a classic of English literature—which, over decades, prompted scholars to spill much ink in decyphering the meanings, imagined or real, in the bizarre characters and storyline.
This book, a facsimile of the fine 1922 edition, contains the complete text, with all the famous episodes and strange goings-on: Down the Rabbit-Hole, The Pool of Tears, A... Tovább

This book, a facsimile of the fine 1922 edition, contains the complete text, with all the famous episodes and strange goings-on: Down the Rabbit-Hole, The Pool of Tears, A Caucus-Race and a Long Tale, The Rabbit Sends in a Little Bill, Advice from a Caterpillar, Pig and Pepper, A Mad Tea-Party, The Queen's Croquet-Ground, The Mock Turtle's Story, The Lobster Quadrille, Who Stole the Tarts.^ Alice's Evidence.
One might think that to attempt to improve upon the famous illustrations of Tenniel would be bold indeed. But the beautiful pictures in this edition are eloquent proof that it was well worth the undertaking. Gwynedd Hudson, the artist, was a decorative illustrator, poster designer and painter who, between about 1910 and 1935 devoted her considerable talents to illustrating a number of classic children's tales. Her distinctive style brought the characters in "Wonderland" vividly to life. There are 12 full-colour plates in this edition, but the margins are also evocatively decorated with the creatures and personalities that Alice encounters, chapter by chapter. Vissza
