Born in 1930 in the State of Kerala, India, Verghese Eapen after completing his Masters in Economics, joined the Government of India. After a fruitful term with the Government as a member of the Indian Economic Service, he left it to enter the Industrial field. He made his mark as a successful industrialist and exporter. He was the receipient of National Awards for outstanding export performance. His engagement in industries did not deter him from his commitment to social service activities with which he was involved from a yoimg age. At present he is associated with projects in Madras for building homes for the poor, community development, educátion etc. Madras Medical Mission and its heart hospital are projects close to his heart and he has been its honorary secretary for the past 13 years since its inception in 1982.
All his writings reflect the long experience he has in the fields of economic development and social work.
