In June of 1992, Rio de Janeiro will be the site of an unprecedented international meeting, the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. Convened to consider how humanity can balance development pressures with an increasingly imperiled global environment, UNCED has been billed as nothing less than an "Earth Summit."
The conference will bring together heads of state from almost every nation, as well as thousands of individuals and private groups. Time for Change, is a guidebook, prepared by the U.S. Citizens Network, to help American citizens and organizations understand and participate effectively in the summit.
The Citizens Network is a coalition of more than 200 nongovernmental and volunteer organizations, including the National Audubon Society, Sierra Club, Humane Society, Rotary International, YMCA, YWCA, Episcopal Church USA, Institute for Local Self-Reliance, and Women's Environment and Development Program.
