J. P. Cushion has revised and greatly expanded his classic Handbook of Pottery and Porcelain Marks for this new edition, which appears in a larger and more convenient format. It includes the numerous marks he has identified over the past dozen years or so and a substantial number of other new entries as well. There are, in all, nearly 1,000 more marks than in the previous edition, and nearly 2,000 more entries. J. P. Cushion has revised and greatly expanded his classic Handbook of Pottery and Porcelain Marks for this new edition, which appears in a larger and more convenient format. It includes the numerous marks he has identified over the past dozen years or so and a substantial number of other new entries as well. There are, in all, nearly 1,000 more marks than in the previous edition, and nearly 2,000 more entries. In addition, the British section has an important appendix containing about 3,000 new subsidiary entries that give details of all registrations of designs of pottery and porcelain at the Patent Office between 1842 and 1883 : these are an essential source of information. The general arrangement is alphabetical by countries and towns, as before, the whole of Europe, China and Japan being covered, and the fullest sections being those for Great Britain, Germany, France and Italy. The comprehensive index at the end much simplifies the process of identifying difficult or obscure marks.
