A powerful drama based on suspicion and intrigue in a Cambridge college, where Donald Howard, Ph.D., is accused of fraud in the compilation of the thesis that has gained him his fellowship. His wife arranges his defence, believing that it is his right-wing enemies in the college who are trying to discredit him. Howard is exonerated, but his relationship with his wife is ruined in the process. A SEVERED HEAD by Iris Murdoch and J. B. Priestley First performed by the Bristol Old Vic Company at the Theatre Royal, Bristol, in May 1963. A penetrating and witty comment on the British character, showing how bad we are at straying from the straight and narrow path of morality. A rollicking farce in which two buskers get mixed up in a spy plot, with a tremendous amount of fun resulting from their mistaken identity. The Daily Express described its audiences as 'people choked with mirth'. SOLDIER FROM THE WARS RETURNING by Dávid Campton First produced at the Gate Theatre, Dublin and at the Comedy Theatre, London, in 1961. A grotesque comedy in which a sentimental barmaid and a bartender between them so influence the morale of one of their customers -a soldier just back from active service - that they manage to reduce the gallant warrior to a self-pitying wreck.
