SPIRITUALITY / LENT / EASTE
A Practical Christianity: Meditations for the Season of Lent challenges readers to take up "practical Christianity"—Christian faith as something we do, not merely something we believe in.
In this lively yet deeply reflective book, Shaw reconsiders the central doctrines of the faith (Creation and Sin, Forgiveness, the Trinity, Salvation, and finally Love) through the lens of how we practice them. Ideal for Lenten study groups but just as resonant throughout the year, A Practical Christianity combines fiction, poetry, art and music with the wisdom of scripture and theology to help pilgrims to make sense of faith, uncertainty and love in the context of everyday life.

"Jane Shaw fashions a rare thing: she presents a companion to the season of Lent—and the whole of Christian life—that is both beautiful and useful. A Practical Christianity lifts up riches from deep within the Christian spiritual tradition and makes them startlingly accessible." —Jeff Lee, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago
"This is a book at once inspirational and challenging. It is truly a gift of the spirit." —Bonnie Anderson, President of the Episcopal House of Deputies
The Very Rev. Dr. Jane Shaw is Dean of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. Prior to accepting that call, she was Dean of Divinity at New College, Oxford, and taught history and theology at Oxford University for sixteen years. She is co-editor of The Call for Women Bishops and author of Miracles in Enlightenment England and Octavia, Daughter of God: The Story of a Female Messiah and Her Followers. She contributes frequently to the (London) Times, The Guardian, Church Times, and radio programs.
