From the day Hitler came to power art was a matter of the highest priority to the Reich: Goering and the Gauleiters were ravenous collectors, completely unserupulous in their lust to acquire paintings and sculpture from every occupied country especially Poland, Francé, the Low Countries, the USSR, and finally, Italy.
