E. G. Couzens was born in 1887. He was educated at Emmanuel School, Wandsworth, and then at the Royal College of Science, where he spent seven years as student, research scholar, and demonstrator. After varied experiences, largely concerned with explosives, he joined a well-known firm handling thermoplastics and In 1927 built a synthetic camphor plant which is still the only plant in Britain. Later he was appointed Research Manager and gained a wide experience of thermoplastics, holding office meanwhile in various technical organizations, including the Chemistry Research Advisory Board of the D.S.I.R. In 1946 he became Managing Director of the only firm in the British Commonwealth making photograph film base, retiring at the age of 65 to become Technical Director. He was awarded the O.B.E. in 1954.

V. E. YARSLEY (right)
V. E. Yarsley was born in Staffordshire in 1901 and was educated at Queen Mary's Gramrtiar School, Walsall. After World War I he graduated in Chemistry at Birmingham University, and was later awarded a Research Fellowship which he held at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule, Zürich. Here he carried out research work on the iroduction and application of cellulose acetate, and later ud experience in the production of cellulose esters for industry. In 1931 he" began to practise as an independent consultant and has built up a research organization covering generally the fields of organic polymers.
He holds office in the Society of Chemical Industry and the Plastics Institute, and also sits on the National Advisory Council on Education for Industry and Commerce.
