Reasons for Lísteníng Reasons for Listening is a collection of listening materials and tasks designed to give students a wide rangé of listening practice at upper-intermediate and more advanced levels. The recordings cover a variety of situations where the listener does not interact directly with a speaker, for example, when listening to news broadcasts, public announcements, radio commentaries, discussion programmes, radio and television interviews and so on. The tasks based on the recordings provide the 'reason for listening': they are activities which we might all carry out in response to something we have heard. In the real world, somé listening tasks are easier than others and the book starts with somé simple tasks and recordings before moving on to more complex examples, of the kind found in the new Royal Society of Arts Examinations in the Communicative Use of English and in the new Certificate of Proficiency examination. Reasons for Listening consists of a book and a set of two cassettes. The cassettes contain 27 recordings grouped in nine different categories of listening situation providing a choice of subject matter in each category. The book contains: * a rangé of activities from table-filling to group discussions * transcripts of all the recordings * a key to the exercises for students studying alone * helpful teacher's notes with suggestions on how best to use the material in class.
