THE BOOK
Millions of Hindus for centuries have found comfort in the Bhagavadgita. This religious classic sets forth In precise^and penetrating words the essential principles of a spiritual religion which are not contingent on ill-founded facts, unscientific dogmas or arbitrary fancies. With a long history of spiritual power, the Gita serves even today as a light to all who will receive illumination from the profundity of its wisdom. It is a powerful shaping factor in the renewal of spiritual life and has secured an assured place among the world's great scriptures.

There are many good English translations of Bhagavadgita and there would be no justification for another, if all that was needed for English readers was a bare translation. Those who read the Gita in English need notes at least as much as those who read it in Sanskrit, if they are not to miss their way in it. Every scripture has two sides, one temporary and perishable belonging to the ideas of the period and the country in which it was produced, and the other eternal and Imperishable, and applicable to all ages and countries.
Dr Radhakrishnan, the renowned philosopher-saint of India, has very ably brought out the eternal message of the Bhagavadgita in clear readable English for the benefit of the general reader. He has also provided ample food for thought for the intelligent reader in his interpretative commentary.
THE AUTHOR
S. Radhakrishnan (1888-1975) was a great Indian, a profund philosopher, a prominent author and a dynamic educationist. His important contribution lies in interpreting Indian religion, culture and philosophy to the entire world. He became the President of India in 1961 and held this honourable rank till 1967 when he retired from public life.
He wrote a number of books having world wide readership. Some of the outstanding books are: The Hindu View of Life; East and West in Religion ; Rdigion and Society : An Idealist View of L;fe ; Indian Philosophy.
