THE MOUNTAIN THAT LOVED A BIRD
Joy had stopped to rest on many mountains before, but this was the first that had aslted her to stay. It was too dry and harsh a place for a bird to live, but Joy promised to return each spring; and because mountains live longer than birds, she would name a daughter Joy, and send her to visit, and each daughter would always do the same. Being a party to the creation of a good book shares the essence of this same continuity. As the Bird was able to invent a way, in some sense, to stay with the mountain, my stoiy will stay with children and their parents."
