THE TECHNIQUE OF PIANO PLAYING JÓZSEF GÁT In this volume, József Gát, late professor at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest, distilled his experiences acquired during his teaching activity of long standing. Here is what the late Imre Ungár, the well-known Hungárián pianist, said about this book: "Professor Gát, when speaking about technique, does not refer only to speed and dynamics; this would be a misinterpretation. The technique of piano playing is in fact the art and ability to express, by means of piano, our most beautiful musical and artistic ideas. It is not the dexterity of the fingers that alone constitutes good technique: it is the ability to make the piano weep and smile, to evoke humán and artistic feelings and manifestations.
