The Executive Mansion has reflected the personality of each President, however brief or long his service. It has mirrored the style of public and priváté life of each Chief Executive who has resided there. And by virtue of these associations its historical treasures are beyond price and beyond comparison. In 1961 the White House Historical Association was förmed and one of its purposes was to teli the rich and varied story of the White House. This book is the result: an authentic account of the mansion's history, its architectural significance, its contents -including the most recent restoration work, which was begun by Mrs. John F.
